Department of Biochemistry   Department objectives To achieve academic excellence by continual improvisation of the average marks and pass percentage of the students in the University Examinations by 2%. To strive for at least one University rank holder To create opportunities and help the students discover their potentialities in their practical skill, making them undergo laboratory training in various biochemical laboratories once in a year. To develop positive attitude and subject knowledge of the students by conducting various seminars/guest lectures at least 2 in a semester To organize industrial visit at least once in a year to get updated information and practical knowledge in the field of science and technology To improve the creativity, presentation skill and knowledge of the students by encouraging them to present papers on various subjects, related topics, atleast twice in a year   Faculty The college has a team of dedicated and hard working faculty well qualified as per university norms.  The faculty is encouraged to pursue higher studies and in turn keep themselves abreast of recent advances in their respective fields. Sixteen  faculty members are pursuing their M.Phil. degree and four their doctoral degree. Periodical faculty development programmes are arranged by the management. Faculty is also encouraged to attend off campus seminars   Biochemistry Laboratory The Biochemistry laboratory is well equipped with all necessary instruments and chemicals with separate storeroom. Apart from the usual instruments, the chromatographic chamber, cyclomixer, pH meter, centrifuge, colorimeter, a temperature adjustable water bath with shaker are available. A variety of kits, which are used for blood grouping, typing, cross matching, Widal, VDRL, pregnancy, ASO titer and tests for normal diagnosis are also available. The normal quantative estimation has been replaced by several advanced kit methods for testing glucose, cholesterol, urea, uric acid, phosphorus, iron and bile pigments. All the apparatus are being calibrated in the lab at the beginning of every academic year to ensure the correct functioning. The staff room is attached with the lab to monitor the activities of the students.   Faculty Development Programme Inorder to update themselves in recent advances in Biosciences, the faculty members of the department participate in state and national seminars conducted by various institutions and colleges.   Counseling Club The department of Biochemistry has a Counseling Club; the faculty members of this department are the members of this club. This club counsels the students to get more marks in the University Examinations and give solutions to their various problems in both academic activities and behavioral activities, and to maintain their individuality.   Events The department of Biochemistry conducts various major and minor events every year to develop the students' knowledge.   Major Events Biomia - This is a "Blood group identification camp". This camp is conducted in September 1st week of every year by the final year students. All the first year students of KKET are benefited by this camp. Two days seminar - In order to give an introduction in the rapidly growing field of Bioinformatics, the department of Biochemistry organized and conducted a two day Seminar, on the topic "Familiarization with Bioinformatics". Industrial visits - Every year the department of Biochemistry arranges an industrial visit, by which the students gain more knowledge about the industrial values of different fields of Science and Technology.  Back
